LOT.703 DENIM JACKET c.1920's

This 1920s denim jacket is an iconic TT item. Taiga Takahashi preferred denim from store brands over Levi's, particularly JCPenny, which operated the brand Foremost. In the 1920s, JCPenny began making Levi's-inspired denim, gradually developing original designs. Collecting these denim pieces, the designers' trial-and-error efforts to differentiate themselves from Levi's can be seen in every detail, and this passion led to the creation of Taiga Takahashi's original denim. This 3/1 left-hand twill, light-weight denim is made from American organic cotton and woven on an old-fashioned power loom in Okayama. Slowly woven on an old-fashioned shuttle loom, which can only weave at speeds 10 to 20 times slower than modern looms, the denim fabric retains the natural unevenness of the cotton thread, creating a pleasantly uneven texture. The warp thread is indigo mixed with sulfide dyes, resulting in a weathered, green-cast color. The core is dyed white using rope dyeing. The weft is made of a custom-made nep yarn dyed a yellowed off-white that evokes the passage of time. By using these two types of yarn, we have arrived at Taiga Takahashi's unique, deep, rich indigo blue. The fabric is then finished with a shrink-resistant process called sanforization. Made from "white selvedge" denim, the white selvedge is used in various places, such as the front and cuff lining. This jacket has a simple construction with only one patch pocket and a single stitch that secures the pleats on the front. The silhouette is flat, with straight sleeves and a flat shoulder line. The custom-engraved buttons and back are all made of iron and are not plated, so they will rust over time, allowing you to enjoy the changes they undergo over time. All details are reproduced using the exact same techniques as in the 1920s. The signature leather patch is mud-dyed on Amami Oshima.
