The silhouette and features of 1930s denim trousers were researched and newly designed. The deep rise, waist, and straight silhouette from the thighs to the hem, designed to be worn with suspenders, retain the ruggedness of the era, with slightly adjusted measurements to allow for greater movement. To enhance the authenticity, black lacquer buttons and copper rivets, which were used on lightweight denim at the time, were incorporated.
For the fabric, we analyzed and developed an original denim fabric from that era. This fabric uses a green-cast indigo-dyed warp yarn and an unbleached weft yarn, conceived by Takahashi. While maintaining the original color, the yarn count was adjusted and the number of threads per inch was increased, creating a rich texture distinct from standard left-hand twill denim due to its 1/2 right-hand twill weave. For the processing, we referenced 1930s vintage denim pants, aiming to reproduce the fading that would have occurred under typical usage conditions of the time. Considering the context of lightweight denim and the relatively fast-fading dyes used back then, a distinctive linear color loss is reproduced in areas prone to friction from wear. The clear, high-contrast colors tell the story of the practicality and period-specific nature of workwear from that era.
